Welcome to Engineers’ Male Choir!

Here you’ll find answers to the most essential questions that you might ask about our choir.

What?

Engineers’ Male Choir is a concert choir consisting of more than 50 members.
We are based at the Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), majority of us being graduates of this excellent engineering school. Our choir enjoys the status of being one among the outstanding concert choirs at the Estonian male choirs’ scene. Without any doubt we plan to retain this status in the future.

Who?

As you might guess, most of our members are engineers by their qualification. Having said that, our members’ list includes gentlemen from various fields of activities, from doctors and lawyers to musicians with one common feature, that would be love towards men’s choir singing.

Why?

Making music together combined with active social life has turned us a splendid fellowship of friends that we enjoy a lot.

Who’s in charge?

The choir was established in 1987 under the musical direction of Prof. Emeritus Ants Üleoja. Kuldar Schüts, his master cum-laude graduate student has taken over the lead as a principal conductor from the beginning of 2017. Aside from musical leadership, the management model exercised in our choir reflects the one discovered by our elder brothers in the Academic Male Choir of University of Technology, where the chairman assisted by the board are in ultimate charge, while both are re-elected annually by members’ vote. Importantly, the power is handed over from chairman to chairman with strict regularity and most of the members would have chance to give their contribution for the success of choir as chairmen or board members.

Singing, but what does it really mean?

From the very beginning, we’ve participated in the events that took Estonia to it’s reawakening in the end of 1980’s. Those events lead our nation to regaining the independence and re-establishing Estonian Republic. At that time we earned the name of „the choir of reawakening“ among our fans and we are proud to say we value those ideas and principles today as much as in those years. Which does not mean that we would not love singing choral music from various areas including entertaining music, when we get chance for it.

What do we do?

Though our beloved home audience lives besides us here in Estonia, our concert tours have taken us to USA and Canada and to many countries in Europe. Concert tours in the last decade took us to Italy (2013) and Georgia (2014).
In 2017 we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a series of concerts and different musical and non-musical activities, that included among others publication of a book „ 30 Years of Engineers Male Choir“. As a part of those celebrations, the choir was on it’s first tour in China, visiting Chongqing, Guangzhou and Pekin.
In autumn 2019 choir received warm welcome at concerts in Lviv and Truskavets on the tour in the western Ukraine.

What happens now?

In autumn 2020 choir plans to record and issue a CD with male choir arrangements of a selection of Estonian light music classics.
As usual, we perform at a number of concerts and during the year. Please check out our „Esinemised“ section on our website and keep connected with us over Facebook.
